Hello Lovelies,
I never knew that fennel seeds carried so many health values! Hope you guys learnt something new!
Stay Tinseled ya'll!!! :)
Welcome back! How's the weekend going? Mine is just like a normal weekend, rather a silent one I can say. My husband and I decided to invite our friends and chill at home! It was nice, we watched Escape Plan, nice movie. After that, we had "heavy dinner" which is not a good practice, but once in a while it's okay! :P So, in order to stay, you know kinda healthy, we had fennel seeds. I then wondered, why is that we eat fennel seeds after a heavy meal! After a good amount of research, here's what I found!
Most commonly known as ‘saunf', this spice is most cherished after a meal by all of us, but little do we know about its health and medical benefits.
Fennel seeds are used in most Mediterranean cuisine styles. They are 3-4mm long, oval in shape and available all through the year.
Health Benefits:
• Fennel is rich in antioxidants, minerals, dietary fiber, essential compounds and vitamins.
• Dietary fiber helps increase the bulk of food, thus easing constipation. It also helps reduce LDL cholesterol.
• Flavonoid antioxidants present in fennel seeds help remove harmful free radicals from the body, thus protecting us from cancers, infections and aging.
• Fennel seeds are a concentrated source of minerals like iron and copper, needed for the production and formation of red blood cells. They also contains zinc, magnesium and potassium which act as co-factors needed for growth, development, digestion and control of both heart rate and blood pressure.
• The seeds also contain vitamins like vitamin-A, vitamin-E, vitamin-C and B Complex vitamins essential for the normal functioning of our body.
Medicinal value:
• It has a balancing effect on the female reproductive system.
• It is used as a remedy for flatulence and indigestion.
• Fennel is used to counter loss of appetite.
• It is also used for upper respiratory tract infections, cough, bronchitis, cholera, backache, bed-wetting, and visual problems.
Note:
Avoid using fennel seeds in large doses as it may cause hallucinations and seizures. It is recommended that pregnant women avoid eating fennel seeds in large amounts.
