Insane Society - my thoughts
13:29
A knock at the door broke my reverie, I looked up and saw a little girl who smiled at me. I was still having flashes of random thoughts that kept stirring in my mind. The same old "silly" thoughts. The little girl started talking, I couldn't collect anything she was saying, I was still lost in those "silly" thoughts. She stood staring at me for few seconds and was heartbroken even though she managed to keep that smile on her face. Then suddenly my mobile phone started ringing, I saw, the call was from my office. I turned and got involved in the conversation. after the conversation was over, I turned to see nobody standing at my door, the little girl was gone.
I hurried and grabbed my bag as I was getting late to go to office. On the way, I saw the girl again, she was with few other little girls and some elderly women. All looked homeless, starving and tortured. Few kids had wounds on their faces and were hiding out of fear. I was shaken by the thought of how badly the young girls might have been treated. I stopped the auto rickshaw, and went towards them. One of the elder ladies looked at me as I approached to them.
I was hesitant to ask about their situation, I stood looking at the ladies.
"Do you want anything madam", one of the ladies asked. I mustered some courage and replied, "Well, this morning this little girl came to my house, I could not understand her language. Can you tell me who are you all and where have you come from?".
The ladies looked at each other, they said they have come from different parts of India. They have no shelter. They are scared of the world. They get humiliated by the society and hence they hide. The girls are hungry, the elder ladies try to take care of the kids. But as they have no money, they suffer from hunger and various other problems. They said, they were thrown or left near sacred places or near dustbins by their parents when they were born - reason - THEY WERE FEMALES.
A wierd anxiety grew in me. I could not bear the stress. I stood there being empathetic. It took less than a second for me to break out into tears. The ladies smiled they asked me not to cry.
I left immediately from the place. I felt ashamed of myself as I could not relieve the plight of these women. I went to my office and told my colleagues about the entire event that had taken place. We decided to form a group to help such women. Though, we couldn't entirely change their lives but we managed to bring a smile on their faces and sense of security in them.
How bad and cruel is our society. Men and women are created by the same God. Both have equal rights to exist. But why are men considered superior? This question sometimes haunts me. Shame on the parents who even think of leaving a just born girl anywhere they want to.
Please bring a change to this situation. This happens all around the world not in India alone. Everybody is born equal, women are pillars of society just like men. Please feel empathetic and try to bring a change in the society in any simple way you can. I just couldn't help but write about it and spread the message so that somewhere maybe I could bring the change.
Do your part too.
